255 held from 10 October by Indonesia authorities after leaving Malaysia.
We took to the sea to escape Malaysia, where we were not given asylum after fleeing Sri Lanka. After hellish days at sea, full of fear and uncertainty on our small boat, we are all suffering from fatigue and are very depressed that still our lives are hanging in the balance.
There are no real facilities in the boat. We all are sharing just one toilet for example. 17 children among us are suffering from malnutrition. Majority of us are very frustrated and pushed to the edge of life. Numbers of refugees have already threatened to jump off the board into the sea.
We have suffered enough at the hands of the Sri Lankan government. Our life so far has been wasted by the war. We were forced to escape as a result of the horrific attacks on Tamil-speaking people in Sri Lanka. Thirty year long war in Sri Lanka had devastated our lives. International governments, who refused to protect the lives, were also responsible for the death of thousands. The Sri Lankan government is still holding 250,000 Tamils in small camps in horrific conditions. There is no way we want to go back to that horrendous life. Return to Sri Lanka will mean being returned to hell and all our lives will be in danger.
We have wasted half of our lives for war and in the camps. All we demand is a right to have a decent life with basic democratic rights including right to education for our kids. We are determined not to waste rest of our life in another detention camp which denies us our fundamental rights. There are other Sri Lankan refugees living in Indonesia who are not given their full democratic rights. We also believe that Indonesian government using us to meet their political aims with Australia and with some aid agencies. With no trust that Indonesian government will respect our rights we refuse to come out of the boat. We appeal to Indonesian masses to understand our plea and support us.
We are also very disappointed to learn that Australian prime minister Kevin Rudd made a phone call to Indonesia’s president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to stop our boat and keep us away from Australia. We are harmless peaceful people who are trying to save our lives and asking our fundamental rights to be respected. We pose no threat. We have stopped our hunger strike with the belief that our plea will be listened to. However we are determined to continue to stay in the boat until our demands for basic rights are respected. In that respect we are disappointed with UN which should be standing on our site negotiating a better life for us. We appal to the UN and its general secretary Ban Ki-Moon to take necessary steps immediately.
All we demand is a better life that all human beings deserve in the world. We won’t get off the boat until any country that can provide our rights comes forward to take us.

மலையகத் தமிழர் எல்லாரும் ஆங்கிலேயரால் இந்தியாவில் இருந்து அழைத்து வரப்பட்டவேர்களே தவிர களவாக வள்ளங்களில் வந்தவர்கள் அல்ல. உண்மையில் இவர்கள் கள்ளத்தோணிகளும் அல்ல
கடந்த எண்ணூறு ஆண்டுகளுக்கு மேலாக கலிங்க படையெடுப்பில் தொடங்கி இருநூறு வருடங்களுக்கு முன் புகையிலை பயிரிட்டு பஞ்சம் போக்கவென வந்தவர்கள் வரை வடஇலங்கைக்கு களவாக ஆயிரக்கணக்கானோர் வள்ளங்களில் தமிழ்நாட்டில் இருந்து வந்தனர்.
பின்னர் நூறு வருடத்திற்கு முன்னர் இவர்களில் ஒரு பகுதியினர் பர்மா(மியான்மார்) சிங்கப்பூர் மலேசியா என்றெல்லாம் பணம் தேட வள்ளங்களில் போனார்கள்.
அறுபது வருடங்களுக்கு முன் இவர்களில் பலர் மீண்டும் இலங்கைக்கு திரும்பி வந்தனர். கடந்த முப்பது வருடங்களாக மத்திய கிழக்கு இங்கிலாந்து அமெரிக்கா அவுஸ்திரேலியா கனடா பிரான்ஸ் ஜெர்மனி நோர்வே சுவிஸ் டென்மார்க் ஒல்லாந்து இந்தியா என்று பல நாடுகளுக்கு பொருள் தேடி குடும்பமாக குடி பெயர்ந்தனர்.
திரை கடல் ஓடிய் திரவியம் தேடுவதில் நாங்கள் வல்லவர்கள். வள்ளமும் தோணியும் எங்கள் வம்சமெல்லாம் இன்று உலகமெலாம் பரவ மிக முக்கியமானவை.
வெளி மாவட்டங்களில் யாழ் அகற்றி சங்கங்கள் அமைத்த முந்தி வந்த யாழ்ப்பாணி பிந்தி வந்த யாழ்ப்பாணியை யாழ்ப்பாணி என்பது போல முந்தி தோணியில் வந்தவன் பிந்தி தோணியில் வந்தவனை கள்ளத்தோணி என்றது தான் உண்மையான எங்கள் வரலாறு. இதனால் தான் சொத்து மீதும் பணத்தின் மீது நாம் கொண்ட பற்று சக மனிதர் மீதும் இருக்கும் நாட்டின் மீதும் எமக்கு கிடையாது.
எங்கள் முன்னோர் போலவே நாமும் நாடோடியாக எப்படியாவது திரவியம் தேடுவதில் வல்லவர்கள். ஆனால் வாழ்க்கையை அனுபவிக்கதான் எமக்கெல்லாம் தெரியாது.

நாங்கள் எப்படி எல்லாம் நாடுவிட்டு நாடு ஓடினோம் என்பதற்கு பிரித்தானிய புள்ளிவிபர ஆதாரங்களை பாருங்கள். 160 வருடங்களுக்கு முன் 1834கும் 1870கும் இடையில் அதாவது 36 வருடகாலத்தில் மதராஸ் பகுதியில் இருந்து மட்டும் 14 லட்சம் பேர் வடஇலங்கைக்கு குடிபெயர்ந்தனர். அதே காலப்பகுதியில் 8 லட்சம் பேர் வடஇலங்கையில் இருந்து மதராஸ் பகுதிக்கு குடிபெயர்ந்தனர். ஆகவே இந்த 36 வருடங்களில் மட்டும் 6 லட்சம் பேர் மேலதிகமாக வடஇலங்கையில் குடியேறி உள்ளனர். இதில் கேரளா, திருநெல்வேலி, ராமநாதபுர பகுதிகளில் இருந்து வந்தவர்கள் உள்ளடங்கவில்லை. அவர்களையும் சேர்த்தால் குடியேறியவர்களின் தொகை பத்து லட்சத்தையும் தாண்டி விடும் .
150 வருடங்களுக்கு முன் தென் கிழக்காசியாவில் உள்ள சகல பிரித்தானிய துறைமுகங்களிலும் தமிழர்தான் வேலை செய்தனர். பீஜீ, கயானா, ஜாவா, கம்போடியா, மொரீசியஸ், தென் ஆபிரிக்கா என்றெல்லாம் 150 வருடத்திற்கு முன் திரவியம் தேடி போனவர்கள் எம் முன்னவர்கள். ஜப்பான்காரனுக்கு ஜப்பான் சொந்தம் ஜேர்மன்காரனுக்கு ஜேர்மன் சொந்தம் பிரெஞ்சுகாரனுக்கு பிரான்ஸ் சொந்தம் சீனாக்காரனுக்கு சீனா சொந்தம் கொரியர்களுக்கு கொரியா சொந்தம்

வேலுப்பிள்ளை (SJV)செல்வநாயகம் மலேசியாவில் பிறந்த மலேசியபிரஜை. பின்னர் இலங்கையில் குடியேறியவர்.
காங்கேசர் (GG)பொன்னம்பலம் அல்வாயில் பிறந்தாலும் 1956ஆண்டு மலேசியாவுக்கு குடிபெயர்ந்து அங்கு சட்ட தொழில் புரிந்து ரப்பர் தோட்டங்களை வாங்கி மலேசிய பிரஜை ஆனவர்.
சிதம்பரத்தில் பிறந்து வளர்ந்த திருவேங்கடம் என்ற இந்திய மலையாளித் தமிழனின் பேரன்தான் வேலுப்பிள்ளை பிரபாகரன்.
நாங்கள் எல்லாரும் பெரும்பாலும் நாடோடிகள் தான். அந்த நாடோடிகளின் திரவியம் தேடும் சிந்தனையின் விளைவே எங்களுக்குள் இருக்க கூடிய அடிமைப் புத்தி. பூர்வீகம் பூர்வீகமாக ஒரே இடத்தில் இருந்து வாழ்ந்தவர்கள் பிரச்சனைகளை விட்டு தப்பி ஓடுவதை விட்டு பிரச்சனைகளை தீர்க்க சிந்திப்பதில் ஆர்வம் காட்டுவார்கள்.
