Dear Friends

TWDF Conference: Post-War Challenges facing women in Sri Lanka – war widows, broken communities and the displaced.

We are pleased to inform you that our third conference will be held on Saturday, 23 October 2010

at the Tolworth Girls School, Fullers Way North, Kingston KT2. See leaflet enclosed.

The conference has become an important event on Women, providing a regular forum to discuss issues affecting Women, particularly the Tamil speaking women in Sri Lanka.

The conference is organized around plenary sessions as well as workshops dedicated to specific themes. Some of the themes for the panels and workshops include: Post War Reconstruction: New Roles for Women; Advancing Women’s Economic Rights and Empowerment; Post-war childhoods/new generations; Developing Partnerships and Co-operation: Strengthening Civil Society and Diaspora; Guarding Refugee Protection; Better Health: Women, Children, War and Health; and Women and Violence.

It has been one of the main objectives of this conference is to create gender awareness and build links between organizations and activists who are involved in post-war initiatives targeting women in Sri Lanka. We see this conference as an opportunity for us to speak with many of those involved in gender matters and discuss collaborations, or other initiatives of collective interest.

The conference is entirely self-financed and we will depend on your registration and voluntary donations and where possible sponsorships to support the event. The details are provided in the leaflet. If you need any further information or ideas that you have on the conference, please do not hesitate to contact me on 0208 287 6303 or Sathiya, Conference Coordinator on 0208 391 0861 or the office on 0208 546 1560. We also would like to ask you to help us introduce the conference to others whom you think would be interested.

We need some slogans like these every year to collect as much funds as possibe to make a living in London..We are now British citizens and carrying Brititish passports… So there is very remote chance for us to back to Sri Lanka and do any charity work..We usually throw a small portion of the money we collect from the international NGOs to some workers back home… They supply with photos and videos to us of people getting pittance from our workers..We just invite one or two delegates to give our work an eye-wash..Does anyone know that we organise many conferences of this type every year?
