நேற்று (25) நடைபெற்றுமுடிந்த மேல்மாகாணசபைத் தேர்தலில் ஐக்கிய மக்கள் சுதந்திர முன்னணி அமோக வெற்றிபெற்றுள்ளது. கடந்த மாகாணசபைத் தேர்தல் (2004) மற்றும் ஜனாதிபதித் தேர்தல் (2005) பாராளுமன்ற பொதுத் தேர்தல் (2004) ஆகியவற்றுள் ஒப்புநோக்கும்போது ஐக்கிய மக்கள் சுதந்திர முன்னணி அதிகமான வாக்குகளைப் பெற்றுள்ளதை அவதானிக்க முடிகின்றது.
மேல் மாகாணத்தில் கொழும்பு, களுத்துறை, கம்பஹா ஆகிய மூன்று மாவட்டங்களிலும் ஐக்கிய மக்கள் சுதந்திர முன்னணியே வெற்றி கொண்டுள்ளது
மேல் மாகாணத்தில் 104 ஆசனங்களின் 66 ஆசனங்களை ஐக்கிய மக்கள் சுதந்திர முன்னணி பெற்றுள்ளது. போனஸ் ஆசனங்களையும் சேர்த்து மேல் மாகாணசபையில் ஐக்கிய மக்கள் சுதந்திர முன்னணியின் அங்கத்தவர் எண்ணிக்கை 68 ஆகும். ஐக்கிய தேசியக்கட்சி 30 ஆசனங்களை வென்றுள்ளது. ஜே.வி.பி. 03 ஆசனங்களையும் ஸ்ரீலங்கா முஸ்லிம் காங்கிரஸ் 02 ஆசனங்களையும் ஜனநாயக ஐக்கிய முன்னணி ஒரு ஆசனத்தினையும் வெற்றி கொண்டுள்ளது
மேல் மாகாணத்தில் கொழும்பு மாவட்டத்தில் 15 தேர்தல் தொகுதிகளில் கொழும்பு மத்தி, கொழும்பு கிழக்கு, கொழும்பு மேற்கு, கொழும்பு வடக்கு மற்றும் பொரல்ல ஆகிய தேர்தல் தொகுதிகளில் மாத்திரமே ஐக்கிய தேசியக்கட்சி வெற்றிபெற்றுள்ளமை குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது. மீதமான 10 தேர்தல் தொகுதிகளிலும் ஐக்கிய மக்கள் சுதந்திர முன்னணியே வெற்றியீட்டியுள்ளது.
அதே நேரம் கம்பஹா மாவட்டத்தில் 13 தேர்தல் தொகுதிகளிலும், களுத்துறை மாவட்டத்தில் 08 தேர்தல் தொகுதிகளிலும் ஐக்கிய மக்கள் சுதந்திர முன்னணியே வெற்றியீட்டியுள்ளது.
