எவர் என்ன சொன்னாலும் வன்னியிலிருந்து இடம்பெயர்ந்த மக்களை உடனடியாக மீள் குடியேற்ற முடியாதென கூட்டுப் படைகளின் தலைமை அதிகாரி ஜெனரல் சரத் பொன்சேகா தெரிவித்துள்ளார். கண்டிக்கு திங்கட்கிழமை வருகை தந்த ஜெனரல் சரத் பொன்சேகா, தலதா மாளிகைக்குச் சென்று வழிபட்டதுடன், மல்வத்தை மற்றும் அஸ்கிரிய பீடாதிபதிகளையும் சந்தித்து ஆசிகளைப் பெற்றார். இதன் போது பீடாதிபதிகள் தெரிவித்த கருத்துகளுக்குப் பதிலளிக்கையிலேயே ஜெனரல் பொன்சேகா இவ்வாறு தெரிவித்ததுடன் மேலும் கூறுகையில்;

எனவே, அனைத்தும் சீர் செய்யப்பட்ட பின்னரே அகதி முகாம்களிலுள்ள மக்கள் உரிய வகையில் மீள் குடியேற்றம் செய்யப்படுவார்களெனத் தெரிவித்தார். வெளிநாடுகளும் பல தரப்பினர்களும் எதனைக் கூறினாலும் நிலக் கண்ணி வெடிகள் அகற்றப்பட்ட பின்னரே அம் மக்கள் பாதுகாப்பாகக் குடியேற்றப்பட வேண்டுமென பௌத்த பீடாதிபதிகளும் தெரிவித்தனர்.

What is the total strength of the Sri Lankan armed forces? Why should the army be stationed in areas where there was never an insurgency? The present forces should be mobile enough get to any problem areas within hours. After all the distances within S/L are so minute when compared to other large countries, one could get to anyplace in S/L with minutes or hours and a jet plane within minutes. As it is, the S/L armed forces are far too large & top heavy for a tiny island nation such as ours. How are we going to pay for such a vast juggernaut of a non fighting armed force? As it is, we are borrowing , heavily indebted and getting aid to balance our budget. It appears that everyone has got carried away after the rebels were defeated, without any idea of costs to maintain a huge armed force in a little depended island such as ours. As I stated before , 20,000 highly trained, well equipped, mobile rapid action force is all Sri Lanka needs to keep the peace. Any more than that shows inefficiency & incapability. To put everything into perspective, the areas are so small a few square miles of territory. The whole island is only 25K square miles some countries like India, China, Russia & the US have districts 100 times larger than this.
