கொழும் பிலுள்ள ஐ.நா.அலுவலகத்திற்கு முன்னால் மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்டு வரும் எதிர்ப்புப் போராட்டத்தினால் எழுந்துள்ள நெருக்கடி நிலைமையைத் துரிதமாக முடிவுக்குக் கொண்டு வர அரசாங்கம் முயற்சிப்பதாக வெளிவிவகார அமைச்சர் ஜி.எல்.பீரிஸ் நேற்று வியாழக்கிழமை தெரிவித்தார்.
அதேசமயம், அமைதியான முறையில் மேற்கொள்ளப்படும் எந்தவொரு எதிர்ப்பு நடவடிக்கைக்கும் அரசு இடையூறு ஏற்படுத்தாதென அவர் மேலும் கூறியுள்ளார்.கொழும்பில் நேற்று பிற்பகல் நிருபர்களிடம் இதனைத் தெரிவித்த பீரிஸ், எந்தவொரு குழுவினரும் அமைதியான முறையில் எதிர்ப்பை வெளிப்படுத்துவது அவர்களின் ஜனநாயக உரிமை என்று கூறினார்.
இதற்கிணங்க ஐ.நா.அலுவலகத்திற்கு முன்னால் அமைச்சர் விமல் வீரவன்ச மேற்கொண்டுள்ள சாகும் வரையிலான உண்ணாவிரதப் போராட்டத்திற்கு இடையூறு ஏற்படுத்த அரசாங்கம் எந்தவொரு முயற்சியையும் மேற்கொள்ளாது என்றும் அமைச்சர் குறிப்பிட்டார்.

Government Behind ‘Skirmish’ At UN Office 2010-07-07
It has been revealed that the protest which was held in front of UN office complex Colombo was conducted with an overall awareness of the government. This came to the notice after a journalist recorded a threat made to a police officer by the Defense Secretary over the phone.
the Defense Secretary reprimanded the police officers for intervening with the protest. Once the police officer replied as the orders were given by the Inspector General, Defence Secretary threatened to dismiss the IGP immediately.
That telephone conversation is as follows.
When Minister Wimal Weeravansa gave a telephone call to defence secretary police officer was engaged with another telephone call. Then the Police Officer ceased his call as follows.
“Sir, Minister Wimal Weerawansa is telling me that I have a telephone call from the Defence Secretary.”
